The AAP recognizes the benefits of breastfeeding for the baby including a decrease incidence of respiratory infections, ear infections, diarrhea, and a decrease incidence of SIDS in the 1st year of life. For the mother benefits include decreased postpartum bleeding, decreased risk of breast and ovarian cancer, and an early return to pre pregnancy weight. A babies brain development is not fully developed until 18 months of age { studies have shown that breastfed babies IQ ranges 4-7 points higher  than babies that were fed ABM.} Their Immune system is not fully developed until 2 years of age, for that reason it is recommended by WHO {World Health Organization} to breastfeed for at least 2 years to achieve the optimal benefits of breastfeeding. Any amount of breast milk that your baby receives is beneficial! Please keep in mind that while babies will develop and grow on ABM, it is just that Artificial. Nothing compares to the superiority of breast milk, that you alone, have made special for your babies growing needs!
